Fitchburg,WI – October 1st, 2025 – Mayor Julia Arata-Fratta announced today that she will seek re-election as Mayor of the City of Fitchburg in the April2026 election.
Elected in 2023, Mayor Arata-Fratta has led the city through a period of steady progress and strategic investment, focusing on responsible financial stewardship, housing, sustainability, equity, and enhancing the city’s infrastructure. Her decision to run for a second term stems from her continued passion for public service and a firm belief that more work remains to be done.
“Three years is not enough time to fully implement the long-term vision I’ve been working on,” said Mayor Arata-Fratta, “Continuing to move Fitchburg forward thoughtfully, sustainably, and equitably is my goal for our city. I have the energy and the commitment to serve our community in doing just that.”
During her first term, Mayor Arata-Fratta delivered budgets that kept taxes fair while funding the services our community relies on, increased the city’s housing inventory, and made strategic investments in Fitchburg’s park system, public safety, roads, and other infrastructure.
MayorJulia’s administration placed a strong emphasis on improving engagement and communication with residents, implementing new district listening sessions and "Coffee with the Mayor", and enhancing city connectivity by adding funds to expand public transportation services through increased frequency of current lines and paratransit services.
If re-elected, Mayor Arata-Fratta is committed to completing several key initiatives already underway. These include revising the City’s ComprehensivePlan and Zoning Code to allow for more flexible development and reduce barriers to building housing by expanding housing options and affordability through support for workforce housing, missing-middle housing, and other initiatives.Advancing the city’s sustainability strategies is critical and includes making renewable energy and green infrastructure investments, increasing public transit options, and enhancing bike and pedestrian networks. Finally, and most importantly, ensuring long-term financial sustainability by maintaining responsible tax policies, managing growth, and keeping services efficient, while continuing to improve our public safety infrastructure and addressing its staffing needs, is all-important for Fitchburg.

Mayor Julia was a member of the Common Council representingDistrict 2, for eight years before she became Mayor. She has over 20 years of experienceas a business and accounting professional, serving as a senior manager atWegner CPAs. Julia has been a proud resident of Fitchburg since 2004, where shehas raised her two sons. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business andAccounting, as well as an MBA.
